The Wabasha County Highway Department is dedicated to the maintenance and construction of a safe and efficient County road system while being responsive to the needs and values of the citizens of Wabasha County. The primary focus of the Highway Department is to use the limited resources available for the highest priority needs. This goal is accomplished through planning, incorporating safety and standards, considering social, economic and environmental impacts, partnering with affected agencies, and involving the public. Responsibilities are not limited to the County road system. The Wabasha County Highway Department is also responsible for bridge safety inspection of townships and municipalities smaller than 5,000. Design assistance and project support for townships and municipalities is provided as needed. The Highway Department also maintains and assists in the development of the Great River Ridge Trail. The Highway Department operates under the supervision of the County Engineer and has a separation of duties and employees (including supervisors) as follows:
The Highway Department’s main office and a maintenance facility are located in the City of Wabasha. Maintenance facilities are located in Plainview, Millville, Mazeppa, Wabasha and Lake City.
