Public Hearing Minutes May 5, 2015

 

The Board of County Commissioners of Wabasha County, Minnesota, convened the Social Host Ordinance Public Hearing at the Wabasha County Courthouse, in the City of Wabasha, Minnesota on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 9:15 a.m.

 

The meeting was called to order by Board Chairman Wobbe.

The following Commissioners were present: Goihl, Hall, Key, Wobbe. Absent: Springer

Motion to open Social Host Ordinance Public Hearing.

Adopted Unanimously

Discussion:

Chief Deputy Modjeski informed the board that the ordinance would apply to persons who knowingly host underage drinking parties on property that they own, lease or otherwise control. Through this ordinance persons can be held responsible for parties, regardless of who furnishes the alcohol.

County Attorney Kelly indicated that a violation of the ordinance would be considered a misdemeanor. A misdemeanor is punishable by up to 90 days in jail and/or up to a $1,000 fine.

Administrator Plante advised the board that over 100 towns and cities in Minnesota have already adopted social host ordinances. Additionally, over 26 counties have adopted similar ordinances.

No members of the public were present to speak at the hearing and no additional information was received from interested parties.
