Disease Prevention and Control Program
Through our Disease Prevention and Control Program in conjunction with MDH, we monitor the occurrence of disease in Wabasha County, development strategies for preventing and controlling disease, and work to put those strategies into action.

We monitor for a broad range of legally reportable infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and HIV, and identify measures for preventing or controlling infectious disease outbreaks. We are also responsible for coordinating a community based Emerging Infections Program. We respond to reports of chronic disease "outbreaks" from health care providers and members of the public. In coordination with the Minnesota Department of Health, we conduct investigations of chronic disease problems in specific population groups.

Wabasha County Public Health DPC program coordinates efforts to increase the appropriate use of breast and cervical cancer screening services by women in Wabasha County and coordinates a county-wide network of health care providers who provide screening services for women who are eligible based on age and income, and who lack insurance to pay for services.

We offer many educational presentations on various diseases and health education topics. We conduct a variety of informational, educational, and outreach activities aimed at preventing the spread of HIV and STD's. We take steps to inform adults of the need for immunizations against influenza tetanus. We are a resource to local schools and health care providers for immunizations and the mandated immunizations.
