Adult and Child Foster Care
A social worker completes orientation, licensing and relicensing of family foster care and group family foster care homes. A social worker will also assist in the selection and training of foster care parents.
Adult Services and Adult Mental Health
Persons over the age of 60 who are experiencing difficulty providing for their own needs may be eligible for certain services including case management, information and referral and adult foster care. Adult protective services also provide assessment and protective services to vulnerable adults who may be experiencing abuse or neglect by a caretaker.
A social worker can also provide services to an adult with a serious and persistent mental illness. Depending on eligibility and availability, services include:
-Mental health case management
-General case management
-Crisis intervention
-Information referral
Chemical Dependency
Wabasha County residents may request a chemical dependency (CD) assessment when they are experiencing problems at home, at work, in the family or community due to their use of alcohol or drugs. All persons who request or are referred for CD services will be assessed.
Wabasha County Social Services may also provide case management services, assessments, determine appropriate care, and make appropriate referrals.
Child Protection
Child protection social workers assess reports of maltreatment of children in cooperation with law enforcement personnel. Along with the help of other service providers, Social Services may provide protective services to children and families such as:
-Assessment
-Individual and family counseling
-Case management
-Out-of-home placement
Providing children's health and safety needs are met, reunification with parents is the preferred goal of services.
Child Welfare and Children's Mental Health
Social Services can serve families with children experience parenting concerns or child behavioral issues, minor parents receiving MFIP, and families with emotionally disturbed children. Depending on eligibility and availability, services may include:
-Home-based counseling
-Referral to children's mental health case management
-General case management
-Information and referral
-In-home familty/parenting support and guidance
Day Care Licensing and Funding
Staff complete orientation, licensing and relicensing of family day care and group family day care homes. They also assist in the selection and training of day care providers. Persons who may be eligible for day care funding are those whose income is at or below the state's median income. People may also be eigible if they are in need of child care services in order to secure employment, retain employment, or obtain training or education necessary to secure employment.
Developmental Disabilities
Persons with a developmental disability (DD) are those who have been determined to have severe, chronic disability attributable to a physical/mental impairment manifested before the age of 22. Such persons are either mentally retarded and/or have a related condition.
Wabasha County can provide case management services for DD adults or children. Depending on eligibility and availability, a person with developmental disability may be able to access a wide range of services including:
-Semi-independent living services
-Supported living services
-Respite
-Personal care attendants
-Habilitation and training services
-Supported employment services
